Language is scary when overanalysed. Crywank is coming back to Prague in September. Tomorrow is almost yesterday and everyday is stupid. This is what they told us when asked if they can perform in F2.

Crywank are a UK based anti-folk band. They formed in Manchester. It is Jay on guitar, Dan on drums and Jules on bass. Sometimes playing solo, as a two piece or if you’re lucky all three of them. Crywank mostly write sad songs and have been told they are the worst named band in the country. Either way, they bring anti-folk, punk and emo in body and soul with introspective meta lyrics, perhaps best reflecting late-capitalist society and the individual's experience of it at the moment.
Originally a solo project, Crywank was formed by James Clayton in Manchester in 2009. Inspired by a break-up at the time and anti-folk without any knowledge of chords, he wrote the first two songs in one evening. Drowning in self-pity, self-criticism, or honest confessions, Crywank built his typical "sad-but-fun" reputation. Three years after the project's inception, drummer Dan Watson (ex-Gnod, Denim & Leather) joined the project, adding punk to the anti-folk influences. Despite the pandemic, James remained "stuck" on the other side of the Atlantic, releasing the fund-raising album Just Popping In To Say Hi (2021) and only this year, after a very long hiatus, Crywank started to return to Europe.
Supported by Commuted, just a guy with blood on his face, Crywank arrives from Manchester on Tuesday, September 17, so forget the three-chord folk rip-offs and come and get your heart ripped out.
